Travel & Contact

The conference will be held at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris (CIUP). The Cité Universitaire was created in the pacifist context of the 1920s to support exchanges among students of the whole world. It is located on a wooded park in the south of the French capital and represents the largest student housing and facilities in the Paris region (5,600 beds). The grounds of the Cité Universitaire accommodate 40 residences, doubling as an outdoor exhibit of architecture. The eclecticism of the buildings expresses the diversity of the countries that contributed to their construction. Residences evoke the architecture of their country of origin (e.g., English colleges), others originate from the international modern movement (decorative arts, Le Corbusier). Address: 17, boulevard Jourdan
75014 Paris

  Onsite accommodation (closed)

Sorry, onsite housing reservation is now closed. Please see below for information about hotels, thank you. A limited number of single rooms (about 100) have been pre-reserved for full-conference attendees (with no distinction between oral/poster presenters and others) in the French-British College (College Franco-Britannique), one of the historical buildings on the campus of the Cité Universitaire, and a 2mn walk from the Maison Internationale, the main venue of ECAL (picture above).

These rooms were very nicely renovated only a few years ago, and have each their own bathroom with shower, a refrigerator, and all necessary connections for phone, TV and unlimited high-speed internet.

At an incredibly low (and Un-Parisian) rate of €74 per night, we highly recommend booking one of these! To do this, simply tick the appropriate checkboxes for the nights you need in the “Invoice” form of the registration system (just follow the online instructions and you will know when you see it). Attention workshops-only attendees: you must make housing arrangements on your own, thank you for your understanding. We are sorry we cannot accommodate couples, either. The Cité Universitaire has only few studios and most of them are already occupied by visiting scholars all year long.

Travel to Paris

By plane

Paris is served by three international airports – for more information, including arrival/departure times, check the official sites.

By train

Paris is well connected to the rest of Europe by train. There is no central station serving Paris, the seven different stations are not connected to each other. You will probably want to know in advance at which station your train is arriving, so as to better choose a hotel and plan for transport within the city.

By coach

Eurolines, a trans-European bus company offers trips to and from Paris. Generally offers prices significantly cheaper than the train at the cost of longer journeys. The Parisian office is located in Bagnolet, adjacent to the Gallieni metro station.

Nearby hotels

For attendees who need a double room or simply prefer the hotel, then you can find below a small selection from among the dozens of possibilities that Paris has to offer in the vicinity of the conference venue alone. Note that ECAL does not have any connection or special deals with these hotels. Special accommodation arrangements are onsite only (see section above).

Naturally, do not hesitate to search hotels for yourself, possibly farther away from the Cité Universitaire. The exceptional Parisian public transportation system (metro, tramway, bus, suburban train: see information on the right-hand side of this page) can take you from anywhere on the Left Bank or Center of Paris to the conference in less than 30mn. In any case, whichever option you prefer, think of booking early — Paris is a busy city!
